Nepal has some of the famous spectacular trekking and hiking trails in the world, it is the ultimate destination for the trekking enthusiast from the snow capped peak of the high Himalayas to the teeming wildlife of the terrain jungle. Most treks go through altitudes between 1,000 and 4,000 meters, while some popular parts reach over 5,000 meters. It’s not only the stunning landscapes on the trail that captivates the trekkers but also the people from different ethnic groups with whom they meet on the way. Many people visit the country just to trek and the tourism industry is well prepared to facilitate all manner of trekking styles and destinations. The range of treks varies from a short gentle hike through terraced foothills to lengthy expeditions to Mount Everest's summit. The most popular trekking routes have traditionally been the Everest, Annapurna and Langtang regions. But now the Kanchenjunga in the extreme east and Dolpo in northwest Nepal are gaining ground as new popular destinations. More recently, the government has developed a number of heritage trails in different parts of the country where you can combine a trek with a peek into the cultures of the local communities. Teahouse trekking along the main trails is the most common for travelers; it is possible to trek in comfort with minimal preparation, equipment and support. All the necessary trekking gears; provisions and other goods are carried by the porters. The climate varies considerably with the altitude. May to October is monsoon season, when rain soaks the Terai and snow falls on the Himalayan peaks. Mid-October to mid-December is prime mountaineering weather: the skies are clear and sunny, temperatures range from warm in the lowlands to crisp in the mountains. March and April are also appropriate time for mountain trekkers, although temperatures in Kathmandu and the Terai tend to be steamy in this season.
